Autograph letter signed from Joseph Jefferson, Paris and London, to William Winter [manuscript], 1875 August.

Letter includes two signatures ("J. Jefferson" and "Joe"). The letter was begun at 10 Avenue A. Eylau (in Paris), August 14th, 1875; and after writing 9 pages, Jefferson signed it 'J.Jefferson'; then he retained the letter and added 8 more pages from London, some days later, as evidenced by the stationery of Bedford House, Tavistock Square. Says he loves to paint "far more than acting." Refers to his approaching performances in England at the Princess' Theatre. Speaks of Duncan's failure and his (Jefferson's) losing $6,000 by it. Speaks of Dion Boucicault. Mentions that he will be going to Stratford on Avon.

8 leaves ; 18 x 12 cm to 21 x 13 cm.

In 1828, Anna and her children followed Lardner to London when he became Professor of Philosophy and Astronomy at the new University College.
